2. FAMOUS ROACHES, SIGN LANGUAGE (607)
Dave Goldblum, (Gold/3rd Ear Music), Desk Mix, DM, Marquee, 1996, DAT.
Heres a classic arrangement & stunning performance of folk singer Dave Goldblums Sign Language by the incomparable Roaches - Sneaky Pete Prukl (Guitar & Vocals) & Pete Digby (Flute & Vocals). Crick Lund played Bass on this occasion. An aspect of the old SA system that few musicians seem to know about today is that it attracted artists who would not normally have come together. The Folk & Jazz musicians were marginalised, so the interaction between these two groups was perhaps inevitable in those days. The Famous Roaches, Syd Kitchen, Dave Ledbetter, etc. will hopefully not be the last of this Folk/Jazz liaison. Splashy Fen was one of the last festivals where these two genres could meet in comfort. |
