14. HIGHWAY JAM, DOWN (519)
Mike Meiring, (3rd Ear Music), Desk Mix, Evert de Munnik, Marquee, 1996, DAT.
Contemporary music (rock, folk & jazz) is today a universal language - but as Robbie Jansen says, we each have our own accents. The accent here is on ex-Durban surfer (now living on another wavelength in Johannesburg) Mike Meiring & his brand of in-your-face rock guitar. Down is a song that the lady libbers may not get up on but when HIGHWAY JAM hit the stage at Splashy in 1996 everybody just got down & boogied. The festival exploded with Mike on Vocals & Guitar, Donovan Thatcher on bass & Steve de Kok on drums. This is a classic live rock performance. |
