Dorien the ‘equal opportunity offender’ & master of ad-lib has been the main compere for 8 Splashy Fens. Shooting from the lip, he sometimes misses the point but always hits the mark. He gets across! This high school master from a Port Elizabeth township just burst into this moving & spontaneous tribute for the late James Phillips - and Dorien never sings in public. Bright Blue, who were setting up, started playing faintly along in the background. It’s an old negro spiritual & a fitting tribute to James. |
