From Cape Town Bill has become renowned for his own brand of Western Cape ‘Skollie Rock’. He slides between English, Afrikaans & Cape slang with ease. This song from the old Cape folk legend tells of farmer Van Hinks who was challenged by the Devil to a dope smoking contest behind Table Mountain. Vin Hink’s stash is Lion’s Head & the Devil’s is of course Devil’s Peak. You can tell by the clouds that cover Table Mountain almost daily, that the contest is not over yet. They are still making pipes (pype daar bo!). |
