Spoilt for choice at Splashy

Start ticking off the days and get ready for this year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival – the country’s best-loved mountain get together that is once again guaranteed to live up to its billing as the ‘ultimate outdoor experience’.  Happening over the Easter long weekend (5-9 April) in Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, Splashy Fen offers something for everyone; in fact there’s nothing else in South Africa quite like it!

With a line-up that includes over 70 of the country’s hottest acts, all the outdoor activities you could wish for, plus arts and crafts, an abundance of different food and drink outlets and much-improved camping facilities, how many more reasons do you need not to miss the party of the year?

And don’t be put off by the thought of ‘roughing it’, not when there’s a tent hotel at the ready that offers hassle-free camping at an affordable bed-and-breakfast rate.  Families will also welcome the introduction of a new cordoned-off family campsite, in addition to a full children’s entertainment programme and evening child-care facilities.  Also new this year for the more adventurous is the PowerPlay Arena where you will find a 70m fuffi slide, an 8m climbing wall, paintball and airgun target shooting.  Then there are the old favourites like river rafting, tubing, hiking and horseback trails, or you can just sit back, relax and let the beautiful natural scenery weave its magic.

Be warned though, there’s so much to see and do that the dilemma is going to be in deciding how to fit it all in, or what band to watch and in which marquee?  Talk about being spoilt for choice!

Artists performing in the Grant Erskine Marquee include the likes of Tony Cox, Chris Chameleon, Lark, The Parlotones, Sitter, Tidal Waves, Jack Hammer, Bed on Bricks, Harris Tweed, Jim Neversink, Josie Field and New Academics.  If hard rock and alternative music is more your thing, then catch acts like Taxi Violence, The Hellphones, Japan and I, Sheep Down and The City Bowl Mizers in the Splashy Fen Marquee, where funny-man Glen Bo will also crack you up with his stand-up comedy show.  A limited edition CD compilation featuring 21 of this year’s artists will also be on sale at the festival.

Splashy Fen is the place to be this Easter – make sure you’re a part of it.  Tickets are available at selected Game stores in KZN (R285), Computicket (R310) and at the festival gate (R350).  The price includes camping and entrance for children under 12 is free.  For the latest festival news and full programme details contact Pedro at 082 892 6176.
