Splashy Fen 2003 will be an event that truly caters for everybody's musical taste! Adding orchestral splendour to the festival for the first time, the Gateway Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on Sunday 27th April 2003 in the Splashy Fen Marquee.
Under the dynamic musical direction of conductor and composer Philipp Maier, this 50 piece orchestra will not only perform the light classics and popular music for which it has become so well known, but will also give the audience a taste of its symphonic rock repertoire.
The Gateway Philharmonic Orchestra, comprising amateur, student and ex-professional players, has enthralled audiences in and around Durban with its eclectic mix of music from the movies, Mozart, hits from Queen, Abba and The Beatles.
Joining Philipp Maier at Splashy 2003 will be a stellar line up of South African artists performing original compositions for band and orchestra. Guitar virtuoso, David Birch, will play alongside Mali Sewell (drums), Chris Luke (saxophone), Pilani Ngidi (bass), Cedric Van Den Schrick (vocals) and Maier (keyboards and conducting).
Sunday afternoon at Splashy Fen 2003 promises to be a delightful and dazzling experience!
