Hooters Comedy Tent - it’s guaranteed to be a hoot!
Hooters Comedy Tent

Top comedians from around the country will be heading for the hills this Easter to perform at the annual Splashy Fen Music Festival near Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal from April 21 to 25.

If you went to Splashy last year and laughed like the proverbial drain, chances are you were in the stand-up comedy tent watching some of the finest comedians the Durban School of Comedy (DSOC) has to offer. So popular was the daily comedy hour that all four days saw festival-goers crammed into the venue, with the overflow craning their necks from outside to catch a quip or two.

Answering the call from comedy fans, this year’s festival will see the Hooters Comedy Tent making its debut with an even bigger showcase of the hottest, funniest and most original stand-ups on the South African circuit.

“We’re excited to announce our debut hosting of the Hooters Comedy Tent at this year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival,” says James Champion, National Events Manager at Hooters.

“The Hooters Comedy Tent will feature some of the best comedy acts in the country, as well as a beer garden and fully equipped restaurant with our fun loving, vivacious Hooters girls at your service. It’s guaranteed to be a hoot!”

Included on the bill are DSOC comedians Simmi Areff, Glen Bo, Robby Collins, Dusty Rich, Jem Atkins and Lil Paul. Joining them are Johannesburg’s Alyn Adams, Warren Robertson, Vittorio Leonardi, Shaun Wewege and Hannes Brummer (a.k.a. The Flying Dutchman), as well as Cape Town’s Martin Evans and UK comedian Martin Davis.

Says DSOC’s Glen Bo: “This line-up has been hand-picked to bring cutting edge, intelligent comedy to crowds who like to think and aren’t afraid of having their boundaries stretched a little, all the while enjoying a non-stop, roll-in-the-aisles, good old fashioned laugh.”

He adds that while there are few taboos in terms of material, comedy routines that sail closest to the wind will be reserved for the late night shows.

Supported by East Coast Radio, this year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival will also see more than 80 live music acts on two stages, featuring the likes of Vusi Mahlasela, Karen Zoid, Ard Matthews, Dan Patlansky, The Rudimentals, Boo!, Valiant Swart, Good Luck, Wrestlerish, Versus The Wolf, Isochronous, City Bowl Mizers, Madala Kunene, T.H.O.T.S, Captain Stu, Margaret’s Daughter and The Aquarian Quartet, among many others.

Tickets cost R500 at Computicket and selected Game stores. The price includes camping for the entire festival.
